Transplant Surgery Fellowship
Abdominal Transplant Fellowship Program
Approved by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS)
The University of Washington's Transplant Surgery Fellowship Program is an ASTS-approved program for multi-organ abdominal transplantation. The objective of this program is to produce future leaders in the field of transplantation. Two-year clinical fellowships are available, with the possibility of an additional one to two years' research time, depending upon level of research experience and extramural funding. UW transplant research presently excels in tolerance induction, ischemic reperfusion injury, and hepatitis C.
We are no longer accepting applications for July 1, 2013. On December 1, 2012, we will begin accepting applications for the fellowship position beginning July 1, 2014.Qualifications:
To be considered for a fellowship position, applicants must:
- By June 30, 2014, have completed an ACGME-accredited American or Canadian General Surgery Residency Program, or an equivalent program approved by the Director of the Fellowship Training Program
- Register for the NRMP match
- Complete and submit an Abdominal Transplant Fellowship Program Application and supporting documents.
Graduates of foreign (non-U.S./Canadian) medical schools must, in addition:
- Have successfully completed USMLE Steps 1, 2 (CK & CS), and 3
- Submit ECFMG certification.
- Have two years' clinical practice post completion of residency
The processes for graduates of foreign medical schools to obtain the necessary visa and the necessary certification from the Washington State Department of Health Medical Quality Assurance Commission can be lengthy and unpredictable. Our Fellowship Program Manager can provide more specific information regarding visa and licensing issues.
