The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, is pleased to announce that Dr. Saurabh Khandelwal has accepted the role of Medical Director for the UW Medicine Bariatric Surgery Program. The UW Medicine Bariatric Program has been in operation since 1978 and was certified by the American College of Surgeons as a level 1a Program in 2006, the first year that this certification was available, and recertified in 2010. The Program has grown significantly in the last 3 years and now serves approximately 300 new patients every year.

Dr. Khandelwal has been very active in the Program both clinically and administratively since his appointment to the faculty in 2009. He has taken on progressively more administrative responsibility for the day to day functioning of the Program and is an excellent educator of residents, staff and patients. Dr. Khandelwal has actively participated in the promotion of and planning for the future of the Multidisciplinary Bariatric Program at UW Medicine. Please join us in welcoming him to this new role.
