The science and policy saving lives from America’s deadliest cancer

AWARDEE & SPEAKER
Dr. Douglas Wood

The Henry Harkins Professor & Chair

Lung cancer kills nearly 125,000 Americans each year — more than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. But UW Department of Surgery Professor and Chair Dr. Douglas Wood is out to change that.

Join the thoracic oncology trailblazer for a discussion about the many ways he and his colleagues are raising lung cancer awareness, increasing access to early detection, and ultimately, working to change lung cancer victims to lung cancer survivors.

Free and open to the public. Reception to follow.
Registration is required for in-person attendance. Closed-captioning and ASL interpretation provided.

Submit questions by email to questions@uw.edu or text to 206-616-8160.

Dr. Wood is the winner of the UW 2025 University Faculty Lecture Award and the Henry N. Harkins professor and chair of the Department of Surgery. He has spent his career saving the lives of lung cancer patients — individually as a world-renowned thoracic surgeon and en masse as a national leader in the development and expansion of lung cancer screening.

This talk is intended for a general audience — and a recording will be available on the lecture website.
