Advanced Cardiac Surgery Fellowship

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Washington is pleased to offer a non-ACGME fellowship in advanced cardiac surgery.  This program will offer focus on the skills acquisition needed to manage a variety of routine and complex cardiac surgical patients.

The University of Washington is a national leader in the field of complex aortic surgery, structural heart, and mitral valve repair. Opportunities include advanced aortic training, focusing on valve-sparing surgery and BAV repair, Ross procedure, complex arch reconstruction, and endovascular repair of the aortic arch and ascending aorta. The University of Washington performs over 400 TAVR procedures a year, along with transcatheter mitral and tricuspid intervention. Finally, the University of Washington is a Mitral Valve Repair Center of Excellence and a regional leader in complex repair techniques. Individualized training pathways can be modified based on the candidates' clinical interests.

At the conclusion of this fellowship, the trainee will be expected to excel within the six area of practice outlined by the ACGME as they pertain to cardiac surgery: medical knowledge, patient care, practice-based learning and improvement, professionalism, interpersonal skills and communication, and systems-based practice.
