Competitive applicants to the Carlos A. Pellegrini Visiting Student Internship Program are medical students who demonstrate academic excellence, professionalism, leadership potential, and a strong interest in a surgical career. This funded visiting student internship is designed to provide motivated students from a broad range of backgrounds the opportunity to experience the exceptional clinical training and educational environment at the University of Washington.
Participants will spend four weeks integrated into one of our surgical teams at Seattle Children’s Hospital, University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, and/or the Puget Sound VA Health Care System. Students will function at the level of a medical student intern, participating fully in patient care activities and attending all scheduled teaching conferences and educational sessions.
Applicants are expected to be strongly motivated to pursue a career in General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, or Vascular Surgery.
Those who apply to the program should be students in good academic standing at an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)–accredited, or American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA)–accredited U.S. medical school and must have completed their third year of medical school. Clerkships are four weeks in duration.
