Bio:

Born in Ukraine, I immigrated to the United States with my family at the age of two. Growing up in Vancouver, WA, I spent over three decades there, eventually pursuing nursing at Washington State University for my undergraduate studies. Following a rewarding five-year stint as a medical and critical care nurse, I embarked on a new path: medical school at the same university. Initially leaning towards acute care surgery due to my affinity for critical care, my journey took an unexpected turn during my fourth year when I experienced my first anesthesia elective. It was then that I discovered my passion for anesthesia. Now, as I anticipate my role as a preliminary surgery intern, I’m eager to absorb as much knowledge as possible. My aim is to not only grasp the intricacies of surgical procedures but also to better understand the needs of both surgeons and surgical patients, which will help me be a better future anesthesiologist.

Personal Interests:

I love immersing myself in nature, whether it’s through hiking, fishing, camping, or boating. Recently, my wife and I welcomed our first child, little Joey, into the world. We cherish our family walks with him and eagerly anticipate introducing him to the wonders of the Northwest Washington region.

Clinical Interests:

I find fulfillment in critical care, cardiothoracic anesthesia, and mastering advanced hemodynamics. Moreover, I am passionate about leveraging technology, like point-of-care ultrasound, to enhance patient care. Above all, I derive immense satisfaction from making a positive impact in my patients’ lives, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunities to do so throughout my training.

Professional Activities:

Abstract Poster Presentation at the 2024 International Anesthesia Research Society / Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists Joint Conference titled: Differences in pneumothorax occurrences among patients with COVID-19 on conventional ventilation and high-frequency percussive ventilation.

Poster Presentation at the 2024 Community Connections Showcase, Washington State University College of Medicine titled: Improving Access to Healthcare in Goldendale, WA.

Annual Ethics Lectureship Presentation at the 2023 Northwest Society of Colorectal Surgeons Annual Meeting titled: Decisional Making capacity and positive and negative autonomy.

Member of American College of Surgeons, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and International Anesthesia Research Society.

Why UW?

During my surgical sub-internship at the University of Washington, I collaborated closely with residents, fellows, and attending physicians. The camaraderie and teamwork among the UW residents were striking, and I was warmly embraced as a valuable member of the team despite being a medical student. This experience significantly influenced my decision to choose UW for my preliminary surgery year. Moreover, UW’s renowned reputation for its rigorous training program assured me that I would be challenged and able to optimize my learning in preparation for my future endeavors.
