Bio:
I am from Crestwood, Kentucky, and I have lived there my entire life. One of the reasons I chose to pursue a medical degree was that my father died from pancreatic cancer when I was 21 years old. It wasn’t until I began medical school that I learned about the critical lack of access to medical care in Kentucky. Currently, there are 44 counties in the state without a hospital, and 8 counties with no physicians in practice. There are multiple rural regions where it is almost impossible to seek quality cancer or specialty care.
When I was offered the opportunity to interview for a prelim spot at UW, I was thrilled because I wanted to complete a top-tier surgical internship before beginning my Vascular and Interventional Radiology residency the following year. Most importantly, I really wanted to attend this program because of the diverse pathologies and the large catchment area covered in the WWAMI region.
I truly believe that when I return to Kentucky, after all the years of residency ahead of me, I will truly be equipped with the best skills and experiences to improve the health landscape for my fellow Kentuckians.

Why UW?
I chose the University of Washington for my preliminary year because I wanted to train at an exceptional surgical program that provides a wide breadth of pathologies and has a large catchment area – WWAMI. Similarly, one of the most important qualities I sought from programs was a physically and intellectually challenging program, where I could learn from some of the most talented faculty and residents in the world.

What do you like best about living in Seattle?
There are so many opportunities to go on an adventure! The Pacific Northwest has so many amazing regions and towns (the Forks is on our list to visit) to visit + we love the outdoors.
