Bio:

I grew up in south Georgia, but got tired of the heat and went up to college in Maine at Colby College where I studied philosophy. I then furthered my training in bioethics in graduate school at Harvard before coming back for medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where I developed an interest in general surgery, especially trauma critical care/acute care surgery. I am thrilled to be heading out the Pacific Northwest to learn to be a surgeon and to explore my research interests in palliative care in surgery, bioethics in surgery, and surgical outcomes.

Personal Interests:

I love to be outdoors especially backpacking, skiing, fly fishing, and jogging, and when I’m not outside I like to read and play video games. I also enjoy spending time with friends and love ones particularly at a new restaurant or favorite brewery.

Clinical Interests:

Trauma/acute care surgery, surgical critical care, palliative care, and bioethics

Professional Activities:

American College of Surgeons
American Society for Bioethics and Humanities
American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Why UW?

I was drawn to the excellent clinical training in multiple hospital settings, the research opportunities available especially in fields of particular interest to me, and how much even through the virtual interview format, I felt like I fit with the faculty and residents. It also didn’t hurt that Seattle offers all the excitement and cultural offerings of a major city with some of the best outdoor activities in the world within a short drive of the city.
