Hometown:

Boise, Idaho

Undergraduate School:

Middlebury College

Medical School:

University of Washington School of Medicine

Bio:

I grew up in Idaho where I pursued essentially any activity I could: sports (mainly soccer and ski racing), music (played the tenor sax through high school), art (I’m terrible but it’s still fun), etc. I started college with engineering in mind, but realized I wanted to become a physician after working as an EMT. During medical school I was drawn to vascular surgery for the variety of interventional modalities and patient acuity, as well as the ingenuity that goes into endovascular device design.

Personal Interests:

I spend as much time outside as I possibly can (skiing, hiking, mountain biking, etc…), play on a rec league soccer team, enjoy visiting local breweries with friends, attend concerts and pro sporting events, and squeeze in a good old-fashioned Netflix binge whenever possible.

Clinical Interests:

Vascular trauma
Carotid disease
Complex aortic repair
Peripheral arterial disease
Device design

Professional Activities:

Member of the following organizations:
-Society of Vascular Surgery
-Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society

Why UW?

The vascular surgery training program at UW offers arguably the broadest operative experience in the country, and has an accomplished faculty that cares about the professional and personal development of their trainees. Additionally, my co-trainees are talented, exceptional people who support about one another.

I also love living in the PNW where I am equidistant from the mountains and the ocean, enjoy spending time with my siblings (who also live in Seattle), and am an easy 1-hour flight from my parents in Boise.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Care about your patients as people beyond their medical conditions, actively seek to expand your knowledge and abilities each day, work hard, and always support other team members. Do these things and you’ll be just fine.

What do you like best about living in Seattle?

There is easy access to any manner of outdoor activity that you could possibly want to pursue, and the food is incredible.
