Dr. Rice-Townsend conducts clinical research on subjects that reflect the areas of his clinical focus. As a leader in pediatric colorectal and pelvic reconstructive surgery, Dr. Rice-Townsend actively collaborates with other leaders in the field on a national level to study outcome measures related to anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung disease, and cloaca. In addition, Dr. Rice-Townsend is a board-certified surgical intensivist with a special interest in the study of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and the improvement in management of patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), as well as other aspects of neonatal and pediatric critical care.
